I wanted to write this post because sitting here getting ready for bed I can’t stop thinking how difficult it is some days running a knife company. To train guys that can implement Todd’s attention to detail and technical tuning has proven to be very difficult, but we have come a long way in spite of the hardships. I want to let you guys know that for the first year we have not seen any profit, and not because we are purchasing a bunch of new things for our shop, it’s because labor is very expensive and when you need the amount of time it takes to get guys trained to build knives the way Todd does and has built his name around you feel that you might be doing the impossible. We have committed ourselves, that we will not design knives based around what the cost of materials is, but the labor part is something that does not happen over night. Todd has personally trained every new worker that has come into our company and this has taken a lot of time to get up to speed. I want you guys to know that these knives you hold in your hands have a story, each one of these knives has our joy and our struggle. We are not punching out an assembly line of product each one of these knives has had a story to tell because of the difficulty to get to the point of actually being able to make the knife. Training guys to get to this level has taken a year just to get where we are now. To duplicate this process will more than likely be the same for new people that come into our family of artisans to make this possible. We did the numbers several times and to get these knives out we were actually paying money on top of the cost to get them out there, and yes this is true….very true. We have discovered many things on this journey to get here and communication is everything, there is no efficiency without it period. But that being said we are determined to continue on and make the challenging designs, because we believe with our whole heart that going the easier route is not in our name and will not be our heritage ever. When we leave this world we want to know that this company left it’s mark on people’s hearts and minds from now and for the generations to come. As long as our world stands people will look at these knives and remember this company as a company that lived by the code of no compromise. The world is full of compromise and this is why we will ride this out, and hold true to our belief in this journey until we make this company what my brother dreamed of all his life. Thank you all for your support!

The lottery happened, I didn’t enter. Some of my buddies did and they let me play around with the knife, and something got stuck inside of my mind about this folder…something about the inter-bolton-framelock design, something about that blade shape, something about the size and smoothness of the design, something about that bad ass pocket clip.

Well when I got back to Nashville I went through all the WIP threads about the Bodega and saw just how much work Todd and the Begg team put into these midtechs, the price all of a sudden seamed much, much, much more acceptable. I put my order in and BOOM, within a week I had an orange G10 Bodega at my doorstep.

Its an impressive, some might say flawless knife. The tolerances are ridiculous. The amount of thought put into the design is enormous. The flipping action is insane, it utilizes the IKBS system perfectly. Its a big knife but it feels great in my small/medium and thick hands. The choil is a great addition and just the right size. And my GAWD, opening and closing the knife is effortless and so much fun, when that knife opens it THWACKS open and kicks like an auto. And the overtravel frame lock is innovative and effective.

Due to the increased demand for Begg Knives, we are now producing limited runs of semi-custom knives. These knives are hand fitted and produced here in our Petaluma, CA shop with the same level of attention to detail that is given to the full custom models. The action, lock, detent, etc. are all done by hand, one at a time, assuring the same quality customers have grown to expect with my full custom models, but at a more affordable price. Since the announcement of these semi-custom knives the demand is already great.

We urge you to contact us to reserve one or more for yourself as new models and runs are announced.

The Bodega is my first design since moving to my new shop in Petaluma, California.

I’m very proud of the design as it is a departure from typical liner lock construction in that it features a full 6AL4V titanium inter-frame handle and back spacer along with a patent pending removable titanium bolt on lock. Not only is the lock bar removable for easier maintenance, it is also engineered for the tip of the lock to fit under the rear scale which provides over bend and compression protection. This is the first knife I have built that has no liners but that also features IKBS. When properly executed, the Ikoma Korth Bearing System (Put links to blade mag article) provides the smoothest and fastest action attainable in a folding knife, a system I believe we have perfected here at Begg Knives, due impart to a process I developed of cold forging the bearing races. The Bodega blade features Bøhler N690 steel (Link) that has been double tempered and cryogenically quenched to ensure a lifetime of performance and durability. The blade features my trademark pierced flutes along with a deep hollow grind and harpoon style swedge.

The clip also is constructed of 6AL4V titanium which is set on riser posts for a deep pocket carry along with an innovative large ball baring contact point. Inlays will vary from 3D textured carbon fibers, micartas and a unique custom pierced titanium.

The Bodega is constructed using heat treated precision Bybee pivots that have been honed, lapped and fitted to each blade individually, for the ultimate in glass smooth action. The spine of the knife is constructed utilizing five steel posts that run through all components of the handle insuring unmatched durability and alignment.

Features:

All titanium construction

Bøhler N690 double tempered hollow ground steel blade

IKBS

Back spacer features partial raised jimping for reverse grip control.

Blade length: 3.75”

Overall length: 8.75

Weight: 7 oz

Blade thickness: .150
